Following the launch of Viking Saigon, which debuted in 2022, Viking has ordered and already begun constructing a second identical riverboat for the Mekong: Viking Tonle. Setting sail in October 2025, the new 80-passenger vessel will be purpose-built for the Southeast Asian waterway.
It will sail from Kampong Cham, Cambodia, to My Tho, Vietnam, on the line’s 15-day “Magnificent Mekong” route. To meet strong demand, Viking has opened additional departures in 2025 as well as all regional sailings in 2026.
“The rich history and culture of Vietnam and Cambodia have always made the Mekong River a fascinating destination for our guests,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking. “With the addition of an identical sister ship in 2025, we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to the treasures of this fantastic region in the years to come.”
Externally different than the Viking Longships navigating Europe, the triple-decker Tonle will mirror the line’s Scandinavian interiors, extending to 40 outside staterooms with hotel-style bedding and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors opening to either a veranda or French balcony. Other amenities will encompass a spa and a fitness center, a pool and an al fresco sky bar on the upper level.
The itinerary showcases a total of 16 guided shore excursions and hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City on either end of an eight-day Mekong River sailing. The trip cruise portion also highlights the Old Quarter of Hanoi, the Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Phnom Penh and more.
