Accommodations range from deluxe international hotels and resorts to bed-and-breakfasts, boarding houses, bungalows, quaint inns, houseboats, hostels, farm lodging and campgrounds. Many classic canal houses have been turned into modern, upscale hotels, and some of the rooms are quite unusual: On our last visit, our room was up under the rafters—it had its own staircase from the elevator floor.
