The run of the show “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” on Amazon Prime may have ended, but fans of the series will be delighted to know they can carry on their enthusiasm for Midge and the rest of the characters during their next trip to New York City.
Local operator On Location Tours is offering its Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Sites Tour, which hits many of the show’s landmarks, as well as providing a slew of backstage tidbits that fans will surely eat up.
I checked it out in person on a recent visit to New York City, and I (along with my super-fan friend) give it a hardy thumbs up.
More Than Just Location Sites
Our tour began near the Empire State Building, minutes from Penn Station, where our tour guide — fully decked out in a Maisel-esque costume — picked us up in a comfortable, air-conditioned coach before we were transported back in time.
An exciting element provided by On Location Tours is that all of the guides have worked on the show and will speak about their experiences on set — including the historical accuracies, what the actors are like in real life and more. The guides also offer great insight into what goes on behind the scenes, as well as fun facts viewers may not know about the production.
I found this to be especially interesting, as it gave so much more insight than simply stopping at landmarks that appeared on the show.
The tour lasted about two and a half hours and stopped at many iconic locations from the series. A favorite was Cafe Reggio, an adorable Greenwich Village coffee shop that could easily be found in the city decades ago.
The itinerary included a couple breaks for coffees and beers inside shops and bars frequented by Midge, Joel and more. And, maybe even a delicious black-and-white cookie (but no spoilers).
For those clients interested in taking the tour this summer, be sure to advise them to re-watch the series if it’s been awhile since they finished it, as there will be dozens of references to the show. Overall, I found it to be fun, informative, comfortable and a great way to spend an afternoon exploring the city.
