Accommodations in Budapest range from five-star hotels to youth hostels. In the countryside, there are inns, bed-and-breakfasts and farmhouses, all of which tend to be quite reasonable. The exception to this rule is around Lake Balaton, where the resorts are often old-fashioned and pricey—you can sometimes bargain the rates down. There are also inexpensive campsites in the lake area that are open during the summer.
