From “The Amazing Race” to “The Hunger Games,” survival shows and movies are all the rage these days.
Grand Wailea on Maui has turned that craze into a fun new program of hands-on activities that train children and teens for survival and endurance while learning about Hawaiian culture.
Part of the hotel’s Camp Grande offerings, the new Wilderness Survival Program introduces youngsters ages five and up to skills including mastering the Fishpipe, the world’s first rotating barrel ride; archery; living off the land; creating camouflage through body art and tie-dye; and swimming, including quality time on the resort’s Tarzan-style rope swing. A full day with lunch and a snack costs $125 per child. www.grandwailea.com
